DULLNESS
A little while ago I changed the screen and blades
in my electric razor.
The razor took on a new life and zoomed through
the whiskers. I didn't remember it being such a
good shaver.
Like the shaver, my life can slowly get dull.
Instead of cutting through life like a schooner,
I slog along like a barge.
It happens so slowly, I don't notice. If it happened
all of a sudden, I might scream and kick. But as it is,
I just think it's the best it has ever been, and sink into
lethargic acceptance.
Something new comes along and reminds me of a time
when the wind was at my back and the sun in my face.
It's like waking from a dream. I look around me; I
find sails to hoist and do all the rest of that sailing
stuff I know nothing about. (I guess a person should
know something about the metaphor before unfurling it.)
Ah, well! You get the idea. Throw a little canvas
up. See where the wind takes you. |
